Welcome to our travel blog, where we will take you on a fascinating journey through the hidden treasures of the Czech Republic. This beautiful Central European country is full of places to discover, from picturesque medieval towns to stunning natural landscapes.
Our first destination is Prague, the country’s capital, one of the most beautiful and visited cities in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After three days of exploring its streets, squares, parks, palaces, bridges, and museums, enjoying its extensive and rich gastronomic offer, and living unforgettable experiences such as enjoying a music concert in the church or a black theater performance, sailing on the Vltava River, watching the changing of the guard at Prague Castle, admiring the apostles’ parade at the Astronomical Clock, or leaving a message and taking a selfie at the John Lennon Wall, you can make several excursions outside the city. We suggest these three options:
The first stop is Český Krumlov (175 Km.), a true architectural treasure. Stroll through its cobbled streets and admire the magnificent Český Krumlov Castle, one of the largest in Europe. Also, don’t miss the world’s oldest baroque theater.
The second option is Kutná Hora (60 Km), a historical gem. This city is famous for its majestic St. Barbara’s Cathedral, an impressive example of Gothic architecture. However, the most intriguing thing about Kutná Hora is its famous Bone Chapel.
The third excursion we propose is the spa town of Karlovy Vary (120 Km.), an elegant resort with a rich history. Enjoy its famous thermal springs and relax in one of the luxurious spas. Also, walk through its elegant streets full of neoclassical architecture and visit the ancient Roman baths.
In the heart of the Czech Republic, you will find Olomouc, a city full of charm and culture. Discover the Holy Trinity Column, a baroque masterpiece, and explore the impressive Town Hall, with its famous astronomical clock.
Brno is a historic, modern, young, and vibrant city. It is the second largest in the Czech Republic and the capital of the South Moravia region, known for its wine-growing areas, the most prestigious of which is Palava, which is right on the way between Brno and Vienna. Czech white wine is very good, and we recommend stopping at one of the private wineries on the way and experiencing a local wine tasting.
The must-see in Brno is the Villa Tugendhat (a functionalist house by architect Mies van der Rohe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, its three main squares (Liberty, Cabbage Market, and Moravia), the Old Town Hall tower, the underground labyrinth, the ossuary, and Spilberk Castle. Enjoy its gastronomy and nightlife with avant-garde and fun concept bars.
During your trip from Prague to Berlin, there are two places you must visit: Terezín and the Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
Terezín
During World War II, the city was converted by the Nazis into a Jewish ghetto and the Small Fortress into a Gestapo prison. In order to remember and honor the victims, today you can visit the Small Fortress, the Ghetto Museum, the Jewish prayer room, ceremonial rooms and the central corpse depot of the ghetto, the Jewish cemetery, and the crematorium.
Bohemian Switzerland National Park:
This park is characterized by its rocky and rugged landscape, offering spectacular views and numerous opportunities for hiking and climbing. In addition, it has numerous sandstone formations, such as the famous Pravčická Bridge, the largest natural stone arch in Europe.
If you are traveling from Prague to Munich, an interesting stop along the way is the city of Pilsen (Plzen), in the Czech Republic. Known for being the birthplace of the famous Pilsner Urquell beer.
At the plant, you can take a very interesting guided tour that culminates in the cellars of the factory where you have the opportunity to try a special edition beer that is neither filtered nor pasteurized, which will make the brewery engrave itself in your taste memory as one of the 5 unforgettable places in Pilsen: the Republic Square with the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew and three golden fountains, the Great Synagogue (the third largest in Europe), the Puppet Museum, and the historic underground along with the Beer Museum.
The Czech Republic is a destination full of surprises and charm. Many travelers stay in the capital and do not visit the surroundings that offer a variety of activities. There is something for everyone! For lovers of history, culture, and nature. Dare to explore these undiscovered destinations and let yourself be amazed by the beauty of this country.
